Everything works here — tap ☰ for the controls. But this tool was built for a large screen, and MP4 export needs Chrome or Edge; other browsers fall back to WebM.

Printed Matter Animator is free to use. Here is exactly what you may do with what comes out of it.
Yours, without conditions. Use them commercially, in client work, in shops, in print — no credit required, nothing to ask for. They are renderings of your own artwork.
Exports carry a small “Made with Printed Matter Animator” watermark by default. You can switch it off in the export dialog, free and with no strings attached — a mention or a pretzel is welcome, never required.
You may host it, embed it on any number of websites and use it commercially, free of charge — as long as the small “Made with Printed Matter Animator” credit in the corner stays visible. That credit is the only thing this free tool asks for, and it is a condition of this licence, not a favour. If it is removed, the permission to use the exported file ends.
The exported file is a copy of this application. Permission to publish that file does not license the application itself: you may not reuse, rebuild or operate its source code as your own tool or service.
You are responsible for holding the rights to any image you upload. Nothing is uploaded to a server — everything stays in your browser — so I never see your files and cannot check them.
This tool is provided “as is”, without any warranty. It may render inaccurately, and to the extent permitted by law I accept no liability for damage or lost work arising from its use. Note in particular that nothing is saved: reloading the page discards your whole session. Export early.
Paper names are trademarks of their respective owners. No affiliation or endorsement. Thickness, tone and finish of named papers are approximate values from manufacturer datasheets and may differ from the paper you receive. Always confirm spine width with your printer.
This is a free side project. It may change, break or disappear, and there is no support or uptime commitment. Files you have already exported keep working regardless — they are self-contained.

Totally fine — your exports are yours either way.
If it doesn’t get in the way, leaving it on helps a lot: it’s how other people find this free tool. If you’d rather go without, a mention (bookanimator.de) or a pretzel keeps it going.

bookup.marco.land — the tool that gave me the idea for this one.
dummy.tools — for its way of presenting books.
No code was taken from either; Printed Matter Animator was written from scratch.
Four open-source libraries do the heavy lifting, all under the MIT licence: three.js for the 3D scene, JSZip for the web export, gifenc for animated GIFs and mp4-muxer for video.

Everything that changed since the first version, newest first. Small fixes are folded into the entry they belong to; a few early steps were released together and are listed as a range.
